Internships Beyond Borders

London

With roots stretching back all the way to the Roman era, London’s history is written all over its buildings. Art Deco, Victorian Gothic, Baroque, Postmodern… you’ll find it all here, and often all on the same street! Study the past to inform the future; work with an architecture firm and build something truly new!

New York

With an iconic skyline recognised all over the world, the Big Apple is just one architectural feat after another. From the towering heights of One World Trade Center to the garden apartments of Jackson Heights, architects take inspiration from all corners; learn something new as you experience in one of the busiest, most dynamic cities in the world.

Seoul

The quirky, the bizarre, the inspiring, the impressive; welcome to Seoul. Check out the cultural hub of the Dongdaemun Design Plaza, which led to Seoul’s designation as World Design Capital in 2010. For those who like a bit of bling, the iconic 63 Building is still the tallest gold-clad building in the world!

Tokyo

From traditional wooden structures to shining glass skyscrapers, Tokyo’s unique architecture spans the extent of its long history. With war and disaster shaping the skyline just as much as new architectural innovation, there’s something for every budding architect to discover here – from Tokyo Tower to Sensō-ji!

Hear From Beyond Academy Alumni

“What I loved about Beyond Academy and why I choose them is because they are more flexible and more individually tailored to what each person is looking for, rather than just a generalised experience. My group and the entire Beyond community has been really welcoming. I am so lucky to be able to have this experience with people that are similar, as in we are all looking to grow personally, grow professionally and also just enjoy every moment. Everyone here has left behind the familiar and has come to the unfamiliar which can be scary, but when you have a community as good as this, it’s not scary at all.”

Hannah from the United States
PR & Journalism Intern, London Immersive Program

“I am involved in Project Management, which is close to what I want to do in the future. One of my favorite parts of my internship is that I’m taken seriously. In the sense that after building up some trust and showing the company what I have to offer, What was great was that I was able to work on a project from start to finish and really get to know the while process, that really gives me a feeling of accomplishment.”

Karin from Austria
Project Management Intern, Tokyo Immersive Program

“My experience so far here has been amazing, it’s just a shock how much I have been enjoying it. The interns are amazing here so we have been hanging out and getting to know each other and exploring Seoul. It’s really just been a full experience that I have been embracing every single day. I work in a team who creates content relating to K-pop. My favourite part of interning is getting to know my coworkers, being around a group of people that are just so kind and inviting, working alongside them every day has been the best experience. I had been hearing about Beyond Academy for quite some time and I read some really great reviews. I wanted to get the work and life balance, which Beyond offered. My favourite thing about Beyond are the connections I have made here and also the events that have been planned, it gets all of us out to embrace Korean culture.”

Jordan from the United States
Marketing Intern, Seoul Immersive Program

“I would recommend Beyond Academy because overall its such an incredible experience. Its not like studying abroad through school because you are really immersed in it, you are here living and working and it really gives you the opportunity to feel like you are making headway in your career. ”

Francesca from the United States Theatre Production Intern, London Immersive Program

“I have learnt an insane amount over the last two months. Having been at Uni for two years, I have learnt so much more in a short space of time. I love the fact that so much effort has gone into us having a such a good time. My overall experience so far has been incredible, the balance between working and having fun with friends, and the accommodation has just been great.”

Kim from South Africa
Engineering Intern, London Immersive Program

“I knew with Beyond I was in safe hands, the communication I got form day one was amazing. Thankfully I got put into an excellent internship in investment firm, and I am loving it so far, I love using the insights and experiences that I have learnt in my degree and putting that to use in the workplace.”

Clodagh from Ireland
Investment Intern, London Immersive Program

What to Expect

Architectural interns use their creative and technical skills to sketch, design and implement structures – often to a specified brief given by a senior colleague or client.

Depending on the firm you join, you’ll likely help to design brand-new buildings, plan extensions to existing sites, or assist in conservation and restoration. These are all subtly different disciplines, and you’ll be keeping sustainability in mind whatever path you choose; architects have spent recent years using new techniques to keep environmental impacts to a minimum. Today, everyone practices green design.

There’s also a practical side to architecture. From delivery of each project, on-time and on-budget to keeping safety and accessibility in mind. Much of the time you’ll find yourself with competing priorities. However, a good architect can balance all of this and more, and you’ll learn these vital skills as you work.

Testimonials

Rosie, USA

I couldn’t be happier with my whole experience. From start to finish, Beyond has supported me further than I could have even hoped. And of course, my actual job has been amazing. I’ve picked up so much from my time with the team, and I know I’m going to be a better architect because of what they’ve taught me.

Cara, UK

Beyond Academy has been so genuinely kind and helpful to me as I’ve worked in New York. It can be a little overwhelming for anyone, let alone someone who hasn’t travelled on their own before, but they knew exactly how to reassure me.

Joe, USA

I’ve made some amazing friends in London. And the city’s amazing, there’s always something new around every block. It’s an architect’s dream.
